Open elevation API
We are working in tight collaboration with RACE RESULT to develop a Predictive Tracking for chips and transponders. The prediction algorithm uses recorded data from the timekeeping system e.g. decoders and Track Boxes to forecast the athletes' location and speed in real-time.
Everybody in sports knows the impact of the elevation on the speed of an athlete. The elevation strongly influences the velocity of the participants whether they cycle up- or downhill. During the development of the chip tracking we noticed, that Google elevation API with a vertical accuracy of 30 m is good but not precise enough for our use case. And as there is no other open elevation service providing more accurate values, we developed a self-hosted elevation service with an accuracy of 1 m. You can now use this elevation service for your own projects under MIT license. You either host this service yourself or just use our API.
